This goofy, screwball comedy is dedicated to my older brother Tony, and to all of the babies of the world born in the back of taxi cabs and moving vehicles.
Domestic bliss between two husbears.
A very short, light romantic comedy with no dialogue. I hope to turn it into a feature film one day - with actual voices of course.
I went down with a camera man, friend of mine at the time, and shot footage of the rescue efforts on 9/11/01. The following day on 9/12/2001, it was shown on NBC Live, after a press briefing by Collin Powell, and before a press conference by then Mayor Rudy Guiliani. Producing, directing and writing this story was truly an honor.
One of the great pleasures of directing this short was having professional dancers perform Kathak. The choreography was arranged specifically for this video. Written by fellow filmmaker, Ambika Samarthya, it is a coming of age story about a hard working wife and mother, who does the unthinkable and stands up for herself. The writer was adamant about not having any rewrites for fear that it would change the story. It was filmed directly at Port Authority in keeping with the script.
I witnessed domestic violence firsthand. Leaving an abuser is one of the most courageous acts one can undertake. Shot on MiniDV with my filmmaker/actor friends. I tried to make it look like a home movie.
1 min tribute to fried chicken. I did it just for the love of fried chicken.
Young people of the South Bronx are facing greater challenges in trying to lift themselves out of poverty. A sad reality is that, if it wasn't for the drug trade, many people would starve and find themselves homeless on the streets. The number of men of color, particularly black men, who are homeless is staggering.
Translated to Spanish, "El Aprendiz de Rimas" is set in Havana, Cuba, and tells the story of a gay male teen's first crush and kiss. My screenplay was awarded a $10,000 production grant from the Eastman Kodak Company. Sadly, the director ran off with the entire 35mm film footage back to his home country in Mexico City, where the film was entered into several film festivals in Spain & Mexico, without crediting me. Thankfully, I managed to get this copy and I take great pride in the work. Enjoy
I lived in the Morrisania Airrights NYCHA Projects in the South Bronx for over 20 years. The Morrisania Community is one of the poorest congressional districts in the entire United States. No one wanted to talk on camera except for a small number of community members. This is just a snippet of life at 3125.
